TRENDnet's Entire Line of Softswitch and Router Products Goes Green

TRENDnet, a provider of networking hardware solutions, announced the availability of energy efficient GREENnet softswitches for each port configuration for TRENDnet (News - Alert) unmanaged Gigabit and 10/100Mbps softswitch solutions at this year’s International Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas.

Launched in October 2008, GREENnet technology from TRENDnet is one of the first green networking technology initiatives launched in the market. GREENnet determines and supplies the appropriate amount of electrical power to each hardwired switching port as required by the connected device, by the port, or by the length of the connected Ethernet cable, according to company officials.

The technology has the ability to reduce port-based power consumption by up to 40 percent for 10/100Mbps softswitches, and 70 percent for Gigabit softswitches.

Company officials said following the success of GREENnet technology, TRENDnet defined a goal of offering one hundred percent energy efficient green switching solutions.

In July 2009, TMCnet reported that TRENDnet launched its energy saving 8-Port 10/100Mbps GREENneT Switch (model TE100-S80g), 5-Port 10/100Mbps GREENneT Switch (model TE100-S50g) and 5-Port Gigabit GREENneT Switch (model TEG-S5g).

“Since the launch of GREENnet technology, TRENDnet has maintained a strong commitment to help reduce our carbon footprint,” said Sonny Su, technology director for TRENDnet, in a statement. “We have steadily replaced our existing switch and router product line with energy efficient GREENnet solutions.”

TRENDnet is currently phasing out the remaining non GREENnet softswitches. The company has given customers the option of choosing energy efficient GREENnet solutions for every port configuration from TRENDnet's Unmanaged Gigabit and 10/100Mbps switching portfolio, Su added.
