Softswitch Featured ArticleFor REDCOM, Reliability Is Key to Softswitch SolutionsJanuary 18, 2010
As service providers work hard to find the best fully integrated VoIP and TDM softswitch products, manufacturers need to work even harder to stand out.
Even if you’re a reputable manufacturer, you have to give a little more to cut through the competition. For REDCOM (News - Alert) Laboratories Inc., that extra something that makes the difference is reliability, Carlos Sánchez, REDCOM Laboratories vice president of sales for the Americas, told TMCnet
“One of the main differentiators is our reliability,” Sánchez told TMCnet in a recent podcast interview. “Our systems are rock-solid when it comes to reliability, no matter what the conditions are.”
So reliable are REDCOM’s class 4/5 softswitches, that REDCOM ha customers out in Alaska and the South Pacific, “who’ve exposed our solutions to harsh conditions” and find they operate without problems, Sánchez added.
REDCOM recently announced that Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative selected REDCOM HDX switches for installation at three separate sites in the upper reaches of Alaska.
Located above the Arctic Circle, ASTAC’s rural co-op service area in Alaska’s North Slope region is vast, encompassing 92,000 square miles of brutally cold and inhospitable terrain. To provide advanced, next-generation telecommunications services to Kaktovik, Point Lay and Wainwright, ASTAC needed powerful, next-generation Class 4/5 softswitches that were extremely reliable, low maintenance, and low power given the difficulty with servicing telecom equipment in that environment. Two other ASTAC sites – Anaktuvuk Pass and Nuiqsut – have previously installed REDCOM HDX systems.
ASTAC selected the HDX with TRANSip, a carrier-class softswitch based on the industry-standard SIP technology that fully integrates VoIP and TDM in a single next-generation network platform.
Powered by the TRANSip technology suite, REDCOM’s HDX helps service providers to invest in the latest VoIP technology to drive their top lines while aggressively managing their bottom lines. With the HDX with TRANsip, service providers can incrementally migrate to VoIP in a cost-effective manner when it makes sense for their business, with complete legacy support and maximum flexibility of deployment.
“Our mission is to provide quality, competitively priced, and reliable state-of-the-art telecommunications services to the North Slope region,” said Charlie Carpenter, chief network officer at ASTAC. “The REDCOM HDX with TRANSip, a fully integrated VoIP and TDM technology, is a cost-effective overlay on our existing network that allows us to capitalize on new opportunities such as Next Generation services without having to replace legacy infrastructure.” Marisa Torrieri is a TMCnet Web editor, covering IP hardware and mobility, including IP phones, smartphones, fixed-mobile convergence and satellite technology. Softswitch White Papers
Communications, by phone, fax, email, and more, are key to conducting business. As such, national economies are completely reliant upon the telephone companies that provide these services.
Military communications today are diverse and converged technology networks. The convergence of tactical and strategic networks around a broad range of technologies, including VoIP, TDM, SATCOM, cellular, tactical radios, SCIP cryptographic devices, WiFi, and WiMAX, make it a very challenging heterogeneous environment in which to deploy, network and operate.
Softswitch Podcast
TMCnet's Stefanie Mosca had the opportunity to interview Carlos Sanchez, vice president of sales for the Americas at REDCOM regarding the successful implementation of softswitch as an IP communications solution for customers.
